The Master and Wardens were delighted to host Jon Moulton, whose Lecture in 2002 to the Company was entitled “How Not to Run a Company”, for a follow up for give the WCMC Annual Change Lecture in 2009, broadening his perspective to the country as a whole! Jon outlined how the banks and the country got into the present serious state and suggested what could be done to improve the situation. Pertinently he outlined possible opportunities for management consultants and enterprising businesses during these troubled times. Jon needed no introduction as one of the smartest business brains in Britain and his trenchant observations on the current state of the economy, economists and economic policy makers, proved to be provocative and informative. An outspoken critic of banks and their behaviour, he likened the major countries’ publicly-funded rescue packages to “giving heroin to a heroin addict”. The Lecture, at Stationers’ Hall, was followed by a drinks reception and finger buffet –with guests of Freemen and Liverymen made most welcome. This year’s Lecture was generously sponsored by Harvey Nash and Jon was introduced by Freeman Noorzaman Rashid, a Director of Harvey Nash. |
