Professional Development Group Lecture - September 16th 2009

Sir Michael Snyder Wednesday 16th September 2009
 roganSi, Plough Place

Theme: 'The Future of Financial Services and the City’

Date: Wednesday 16th September 2009

Venue: rogenSi, 1 Plough Place
London, EC4A 1DE

Whether one thinks of the challenges to London’s global role, the political challenges from Brussels and Europe, the sharply divided opinions on sector regulation, or the friendly competition between Canary Wharf and the City of London itself, these are some of the most challenging times the finance sector in general and the City of London has ever had to face.

Sir Michael Snyder was, until his term ended in 2008, at the centre of it all. His formal title, Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee of the Corporation of London, scarcely does justice to the fact that he was, essentially, its CEO.

The WCoMC was very fortunate that Sir Michael agreed to speak to us about:

·         The future of professional services in the UK and the likely skills needs

·         The role of professional services in helping the UK be competitive

·         The importance of professional services for the City through the current downturn

Michael Snyder is the Senior Partner of Kingston Smith a top 20 firm of accountants. He has been a member of the Court of Common Council of the City of London Corporation since 1986 and is a member of the Policy and Resources Committee, having served as its Chairman from 2003 to April 2008 and as Deputy Chairman from 2008 to May 2009. Michael chaired the Professional Services Competitiveness Group for the Chancellor of the Exchequer and is a member of the Chancellors High Level Group on Financial Services.

Michael is Chairman of Gateway to London and is a Member of Thames Gateway London Partnership Board. He is also Governor of a University and two schools.

We are grateful to rogenSi for providing the venue, buffet and drinks for the Inaugural Lecture in WCoMC's PDG series. Sponsorship Opportunities
