This year’s Spring Charity Gala was held at the
Honourable Artillery Company’s “Armoury House” off the
City Road - one of the finest buildings in the City in a
splendid setting, and wreathed in military history – just like
our intrepid Master!.
The dinner was a great opportunity to celebrate our membership of one of the City’s most innovative Liveries, entertain clients and, of course, have fun and make a real difference to our Company’s charities. We raised over £20,000 which will enable the Sea Cadets to buy a new rib powerboat to support their training programme and provided key funding for the Centre as it trains tomorrow’s senior charity managers. The evening started with
music from the Band of the Sea Cadets followed by a display of Cromwellian military muscle from the HAC’s Company of Pikemen
and Musketeers who will demonstrated the arts and
equipment of seventeenth-century warfare - in a sharp and
explosive manner! Musical interludes, with a
military-nostalgic theme was be provided by “The Women of
Note” a group of successful career women who formed two years
ago to sing Swing and Jazz classics arranged in close harmony
for female voices.
After dinner in “The Long Room”,
our guest auctioneer, Nick Bonham, conducted a live auction
of a few very striking auction lots, while throughout the
evening a silent auction of other exciting lots was going
on in the background. |

The Honourable Artillery Company is the oldest regiment in the British Army and the second most senior unit of the Territorial Army. In 1537, the Fraternity or Guild of St George received a Charter of Incorporation from King Henry VIII. According to the Charter, the Guild of St George was intended for ‘The better increase of the Defence of this our Realm and maintenance of the Science and Feat of shooting Long Bows, Cross Bows and Hand Guns’. Regiments of the Company have fought with distinction in both World Wars and its current Regiment, which forms part of the Territorial Army, has a demanding and exciting role. The HAC Regiment, which is part of the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps, has had some 85 of its officers and soldiers mobilised for operations in Iraq over the last 2 years. |
