The Charities Supper

Thursday 20th January 2011

Our annual Charities Supper, organised by our Pro Bono Panel, was held in Skinners’ Hall this year and the focus was on our support for charities that work with young people.
Over the last few years, we have built up considerable knowledge of this area, having worked with a wide range of charities that specialise in engaging with young people in a whole host of ways.  Our guest speakers represented three specific areas, finance education, philanthropy and entrepreneurship.  Every table was full and we were able to facilitate new connections between various clients during the evening.  We believe everyone had a splendid time; we were all surprised when the Clerk called “time” – as time had indeed gone by very quickly.

Before the Supper., the Immediate Past Master,  Professor Bob Garrett admitted Deborah Mechaneck  and welcomed her as a Freeman of the Company.

We had three speakers, each thanking the Company for the pro-bono assistance they had received:

Lily Lapenna, founder of ‘MyBnk’, the first ever independent FSA approved banking scheme run by young people for young people, to help them make informed decisions about their personal finances.
Peter West, founder of ‘Giving Works’ and ‘The Bread Tin’ which encourage young professionals to become involved in philanthropy by assisting them to plan and carry out their own charity projects
Andrew Devenport, CEO of ‘The Prince’s Youth  Business International’, the global network of independent initiatives that champion youth enterprise, enabling young people to set up their own businesses.
