Pro-Bono Services
|
Liverymen have always played a major role through the centuries in the shaping and governance of the City as London, as well as in its pageantry and culture. Pro-bono service, unlike traditional volunteerism, uses the specific skills of professionals to provide services to those who are unable to afford them. Our Offering ‘Giving back’ has always been at the heart of the Livery movement. The Company's Pro-bono offerings are the central plank to our giving back services. The Company offer three discrete charitable services; |
Pro bono publico (usually shortened to pro-bono) is a phrase derived from Latin meaning "for the public good." The term is generally used to describe professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment as a public service. |
- 1. Pro-bono Consultancy services to charitable organisations
- 2. Pro-bono Mentoring to Chief Executives of Charitable organisations
- 3. Chargeable Consultancy to Charitable Organisations (via the Centre for Charity Effectiveness)
Our pro-bono mentoring and consulting is typically provided to Chairmen and Chief Executives of smaller, less fashionable and sometimes struggling charities. At any one time out of our 190 members we have some 60 engaged in such work.
In addition we have raised more money to found, and co-direct together with Cass Business School, the Centre for Charity Effectiveness. In five years this has become the European centre for such work and has an impressive faculty. We are now going even further and will add a separate activity more on the Education side and will offer shortly to the head-teachers in schools in the poorer City “outreach” boroughs our organisational consulting services as well as mentoring.
