David Johnson

 Born: Newport Shropshire 1946 Father English, Schoolteacher  Mother Welsh, School teacher ; Second of 5 surviving brothers. Family: Wife, Mary;  Daughter  Jacqueline (18) at Imperial College

Educated:  Shropshire Local primary school, junior School, Grammar School (Adams’  Newport – A  Haberdashers’  School).

West Midlands Apprentice; GEC telecommunications; Degree – business studies CNAA – from what is now Coventry University (Then Lanchester College of Technology). Met wife to be, Mary (Warwick University), while a student.

Early Employment: History; Trained for CIMA qualification (FCMA 1976) while employed by Pirelli Limited; (Burton on Trent); Imperial Metals industries(Swansea & Birmingham);& Cadbury Typhoo (Birmingham);

Married: 1972. Bought house in Shropshire the same year, which we still retain.

 Consultancy Employment :1976 joined Coopers & Lybrand Associates, London; 1979 Senior Consultant; moved to Spicer & Pegler Associates 1979; left 1986; formed CMA Consulting 1986; but in the same year, took position as Commercial Director & investor to a  green fields venture , Ambotech Limited (in which I had helped raise funds as a Manager in corporate finance, Spicer & Pegler ). Sold Ambotech in 1989 & returned to London to invest in & run another business (Diama Limited) with another ex consulting client. Ran factory & office in London & office in Lille. Personally set up Spanish, Dutch ,Australian & USA   distributors & Indian subsidiary; subsequently closed manufacturing in London & downsized. Retain French & Spanish property interests.

Presently:  Diama Ltd has subcontract manufacture , internet & direct marketing sales. Occasional assignments through CMA Ltd (most recently strategy review, training & facilitation)

Consulting: Some selected experiences

Coopers & Lybrand : Government – Project Review & Management  MTS Crown Agents; Oil Company – Partnership Accounting System design & build - Union 66; City – Futures Broker.

Spicer & Pegler: Mostly smaller private partnerships &  companies & shorter assignments; system design, Organisation Review; market research; recruitment; Corporate Finance (i.e. Venture Capital )

Shropshire: Shropshire Society in London (est 1899) Chairman for 10 years now vice president; This year we are putting a float in the Lord Mayors Show; & Wrekin Lodge (1902) –London.

Wales: London Welsh Centre Grays Inn Rd (c.1934) & Council & Chair Entertainments Committee. Carmarthenshire Lodge (1924)-London.

Other community activities:  Federation of Small business; London Planning Unit committee.    Local resident & neighbourhood committees.
