Celebrating our Members' Consultancy and Mentoring Support

Our professional ProBono work differentiates WCoMC from most other Livery Companies and other organisations providing support to the NonProfit Civil Sector. Our members typically volunteer up to £1m of support each year through their consultancy or mentoring work for numerous clients. This last year we added some 40 new organisations to our client portfolio, with some larger assignments involving small teams of members.

This is one of our defining annual events so we are very keen to share this traditional, yet relatively informal, occasion with as many of our contacts and clients in the Sector as possible, particularly introducing the spectacular setting of a City Livery Hall to them. This year we are returning to the Skinners' Hall, our old home base. Since we were last at this Hall, it has been beautifully renovated. It is a Grade I listed building with ancient monument status. Its forebear, the original ‘Copped Hall’ was leased in 1295. The building was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666 and has been used to host events, dinners and gathering for centuries.

We therefore encourage all members to invite their contacts and clients as guests to ensure this tradition continues. We are delighted to confirm that, as in previous years, this event has been sponsored and therefore the ticket prices, albeit marginally higher than last year, are lower than might be expected. We will be sitting at tables of ten and during the evening we will be awarding the Matheson Cup to a member of the Company who, in the view of the ProBono Committee, has made an exceptional contribution to the support the Company has provided over the last year to the NonProfit Sector.

We will have three speakers, all ProBono clients, who will talk briefly about their work and how they are going "onwards and upwards" following our help:

  • Tori Rist:  the Founder and CEO of More Education, better known as Koala, who since 2019 have provided community and education opportunities for young people and adults across the UK

  • PO Stephanie Fisher: a volunteer officer with the Sea Cadets, whom WCoMC have supported with ProBono work and funding since our constitution as a Guild in 1992

  • Helen Saelensminde: the CEO of the Snowdon Trust, established in 1981, enabling thousands of disabled people to achieve education goals and move into employment

The supper will be preceded by an Admissions Ceremony, a traditional opportunity for existing members to welcome new Freemen and congratulate those who are being clothed in our Livery. There will then be a drinks reception prior to taking our seats for supper.
