Our Annual Church Service at St JamesGarlickhythe
followed by Admissions and Reception at Painters' Hall

22nd September 2016 - 5.00pm then 6.00pm

The Company will be holding its Annual Service of Celebration, Thanksgiving and Dedication at St James Garlickhythe on Thursday 22nd September. The church is a unique 17th century City Church, a sacred place since 1100 AD. Wren rebuilt St James in 1683 to be full of light, since when it has become known as ‘Wren’s Lantern’.

We are very fortunate to have the services of Honorary Liveryman, Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley MusM HonFGS to play the organ at the service and Revd Anthony Howe, Deputy Priest in Ordinary and Chaplain at the Royal Chapel Hampton Court, to officiate. There is of course no charge for the service; there will be a retiring collection in aid of the church. Please confirm you will be joining us at this important event in our Company's annual calendar by clicking on this link (which also includes the option of booking for the reception).

The church service will be followed at 6.00pm by an Admissions Ceremony and Reception - the final one in our Master's year - at Painters' Hall, 9 Little Trinity Lane, EC4V 2AD, the historic home of the Painter Stainers' Company. The Hall is in the heart of the City with a history dating back to 1375 and is one of the most beautiful livery halls in London. Destroyed by fire twice, during the Great Fire and the Second World War, the main building today is a joy to visit with much oak wood in evidence along with many stained glass windows and fine arts works. There is a modest charge of £42 (incl VAT) for the reception, so please join us and bring your guests to welcome new members being admitted by clicking on this link (which also includes the option to register for the annual service).

Election of Lord Mayor and Lunch - 29th September

We are of course expecting Honorary Liveryman, Andrew Parmley, to be elected Lord Mayor, so this is a special event... both for him and for us...

Common Hall:  "These are to require you to cause notice to be given to all the liverymen of your company to appear at Guildhall on Tuesday 29 September, next, for the election of a Lord Mayor for the year ensuing, for which purpose the Lord Mayor will take the chair at 11.45 am, precisely."

The election will be preceded by the customary service at the Guild Church of St Lawrence Jewry-next-Guildhall at 10.45am. Tickets for the election at Guildhall may be obtained from the Clerk.

Celebratory Luncheon:  the Company has also booked a table at Innholders' Hall at 1pm to celebrate the election and experience the excellent dining provided by Herbert Berger, Innholders' Michelin starred chef. There will be a drinks reception before luncheon which will be two courses with red and white wine. The cost is £60 per head (incl VAT) and bookings may be made through our website. The luncheon combines the best of both worlds - the Company has its own table so Members can be together alongside members and guests from a number of other companies and there will be plenty of opportunities to mingle before and after the formal meal.
