Preface from The Master: I have a couple of items to report - both related to the impact of our Charitable Fund; and I am unashamedly proud of what we have achieved through the Fund. Firstly, the new Flagship for the Sea Cadets, TS Royalist, was named and commissioned last Friday (in the pouring rain); secondly, the inaugural ETHOS debate was held last Thursday at Cass - in the dry, but with a reception afterwards(!). Please click through on the links to find out more and I hope you share my pride.

Given the level of "churn" and the number of CEOs forced from post,  talent management will remain top of the list of priorities, especially for large organisations under the gaze of City analysts who look to ensure the continuity of top management/CEO leadership....

Liveryman and Chartered Psychologist, Doug Prior, discusses a range of operational tools that include examining the "dark side" of an individual's personality...

Post-Election: The UK's economic challenges...

The UK government faces three distinct problems as it starts its next five years in office.  Economist, Liveryman Rebecca Harding, maps these out...

Game of Moans:  So we have seen another of the five year gatherings of the tribes and armies of the four kingdoms....

Liveryman - and new Councillor - Jeff Cant leads us delicately through the fields strewn with hapless peasants....

The Mistress meanders through history....

Ann Chapman goes down the river, officially monitoring its activities, with the Watermen and Lightermen....

Another historic "First" for the Music Interest Group....

Felicity Drewe describes the outstanding performances at the Guildhall School's Gold Medal 2015 award evening, and the Group's traditional feasting afterwards ....

Telling consultants how to consult - will the Education Committee ever stop?

Fresh from the challenging and controversial speech from Ed Straw on HQS Wellington, the Education Committee is seeking to stir further productive controversy.... Liveryman Benjamin Taylor exposes....

Mentoring

The Pro Bono committee is seeking to enhance the Worshipful Company’s mentoring capability.

We now provide one-to-one mentoring for charity chief executives and support the Livery Companies’ Apprenticeship Scheme through which, thanks to Assistant David Johnson’s initiatives, we are able to provide master mentors for a number of livery companies who are piloting their own apprenticeship arrangements. Most mentoring roles are in Greater London though some engagements are in areas which are convenient for our widespread membership.

We are looking for members who have mentored and coached in previous roles and also for those who have not yet travelled this route but would like to gain the deep satisfaction from helping the leaders of diverse charity and community projects to achieve their goals, both institutional and personal.

We are aiming to develop our mentoring expertise with the technical knowledge we have as a group and through continuing peer support. This is an invitation to join us and develop your own practice with convivial colleagues.

We will be meeting in the City early in July to establish a modus operandi. Please let me know if you would like to come to the first meeting or to be kept informed about our further activity.

Continuing to Maintain that healthy level of insanity in the client workplace….

-Respond to a serious question with: 'I don't know what to say, obviously I'm flattered, but it's all happened so fast'.

-Babble incoherently at a fellow employee then ask "Did you get all that, I don't want to have to repeat it".

-Page yourself over the intercom. (Don't disguise your voice.)

-Shout random numbers while someone is counting.

-Come to work in army fatigues and when asked why, say, "I can't talk about it".

-Phone someone in the office you barely know, leave your name and say "Just called to say I can't talk right now. Bye".

-Walk sideways to the photocopier.

-If you have a glass eye, tap on it occasionally with your pen while talking to others.
