The Worshipful Company of Management Consultants Debate – 14 November 2012

Will Huttonand Jon Moulton will debate an issue critical to the UK’s political economy

 

The motion will be:

 

“This house believes that The City should be run for the benefit of the country, not the country for the benefit of The City”

 

For the Motion

 

 

Proposing the Motion will be Will Hutton, Principal of Hertford College Oxford, journalist, political economist and author of “The State We’re In” and “The World We’re In”.

Recently commissioned by No 10 to lead an enquiry into equity in remuneration he has been a trenchant critic of the current distribution of income.

 

 

 

Will’s Seconder will be Professor Vicky Pryce CB, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants and previously Joint Head of the Government Economic Service.

She has recently published “Greekonomics”, considering the state of the Greek and wider EU economies.

Against the Motion

 

 

Opposing the Motion will be Jon Moulton, Managing Partner of Better Capital and the doyen of British Venture Private Equity players. Having founded Alchemy Partners, where he led the bid to save the Rover Group, he founded Better Capital to show another (better) way. John’s robust views on the role of markets and Governments, private and public debt have made him much in demand as a public speaker.

 

 

 

Jon will be seconded by Dr Keith Burgess OBE, Founder Member and Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants and former Worldwide Managing Partner of Andersen Consulting whose career in consulting spans the period from the City’s Big Bang to the Great Adjustment.

 

 

The evening will start with a drinks reception at 6.30pm and the Debate itself will begin at 7.00pm with voting at 8.30pm, to be followed by a buffet supper. The evening will conclude at 9.45pm.
