Generating income by charities: How can management consultants help?

If you are working in or with a charity, you will appreciate that charities need income more than ever but that generating income is one of the biggest challenges that they face.

To help answer the question of "How can management consultants help?", we are delighted to be joined by Carol Homden, Chief Executive of Coram, and Mark Gillham, Chief Executive of the Stuart Low Trust, to share their experience and insights into the present challenges to effective fund raising and the qualities one looks for in a successful fund raiser.

Carol and Mark will help answer a range of follow up questions including:

  • What does the funding landscape look like?
  • How do you identify sources of funds?
  • How do you make the case to potential funders?
  • What does a successful bid look like?
  • How do you manage the relationship with the funder?

Carol Homden started her career setting up print media enterprises before becoming Director of Marketing and Development at the University of Westminster, later moving to the British Museum in 1999 as its first Director of Marketing and Public Affairs. Her affinity for improving the lives of young people led her to the position of Commercial Director for the Prince’s Trust in 2003, and she became Chief Executive of Coram in 2007.

Formerly a member of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales, Carol served on the Adoption Leadership Board for seven years and is a continuing member of the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health. She was Chair of the National Autistic Society for ten years and is now Chair of Diabetes UK. Carol was awarded a CBE in 2013 for her contribution to services for children and families.

Mark Gillham has worked in the charity sector in London for 30 years.  During the past 15 years, he has worked in leadership roles as Chief Executive of two SME charities.  He has founded a charity fundraising and service delivery consortium, which he chaired, and set-up a social enterprise to build affordable housing.  He has extensive experience of developing fundraising strategy for SME charities with hands on track record of public sector, grants, corporate and community fundraising.  He has tripled the income of a charity, developed a charity from foundation to income of £1M and increased the grants application success rate of a charity from 15% to over 40%.

Drinks and food will be served at the seminar.

Please join us to gain important insights into charity income generation.
