The annual celebration of our ProBono work, preceded by an admissions ceremony. This event is open both to Company Members and Non-Members to book.

Our ProBono Work in the Spotlight

Our ProBono work differentiates WCoMC from most other Livery Companies and other organisations providing support to the NonProfit Civil Sector, with our members providing some £1.3m of support each year through their consultancy or mentoring work to numerous clients.

This is one of our defining annual events so we are very keen to share this traditional, yet relatively informal, occasion with as many of our contacts and clients in the Sector as possible, particularly introducing the spectacular setting of a City Livery Hall to them. This year we will be in the Saddlers' Hall, very close to St Paul's Cathedral and accessed through a secluded courtyard. It is built in a neo-classical style with bespoke period furniture, historical antiquities, and paintings. The Great Hall has exquisite stained-glass windows and a musicians’ gallery, a real treat for this event.

We would therefore encourage all members to invite such contacts and clients as guests to ensure this tradition continues. We are delighted to confirm that, as in previous years, this event has been sponsored and therefore the costs are lower than members and guests might expect. Indeed, we have managed to keep to last year's prices, although we will be sitting in tables of nine. If you are not able to attend and invite guests, do note that non-members may also book directly.

We will have three speakers, all ProBono clients, who will talk briefly about their work and how they are going "onwards and upwards" following our help:

  • Rich Thanki - who is the Founder and Chief Executive of Jangala, the UK-based charity dedicated to enabling internet access for people in need of urgent humanitarian aid or longer-term development assistance
  • Alicia Weston - who is the founder of Bags of Taste, the charity that transforms the lives of people with multiple disadvantages by giving them the help and practical support they need to buy and cook tasty, healthy and affordable food, making it easier for people to improve their diets, health and finances so they can move out and stay out of food poverty
  • Jeremy Lune - who is Chief Executive of Cards for Good Causes, which has been selling cards on behalf of some 300 charities since 1959 when they first started trading; they have been diversifying from just Christmas Cards to cards and gifts for all occasions

During the evening, as is our custom, we will be awarding the Matheson Cup to a member of the Company who, in the view of the ProBono Committee, has made an exceptional contribution to the support the Company has provided over the last year to the NonProfit Sector.

The supper will be preceded by an Admissions Ceremony, a traditional opportunity for existing members to welcome new Freemen and congratulate those who are being clothed in our Livery.

Members and Registered Event Account Holders can click on this Participant Listing link to see who has booked.
