Liveryman Alistair Dixon

Alistair Dixon passed away peacefully on Monday 6th November 2023 at Pilgrims Hospice in Canterbury, aged 62. Alistair was admitted to the Company on 21st March 2007 and clothed in 2010.

We welcomed Alistair as a Management Consultant, specialising in telecoms for many years. He was an active Member before he left London to run his own hotel and restaurant in Broadstairs with Robert Stone, his partner then husband.

Not least he was a founder of, and served as Treasurer to, the Company Wine Club. This included the pioneering and challenging job on the Club's first wine-buying trips of recording Members’ and the Wine Club’s various orders in the vineyards and figuring out Members' due payments. He also organised the local accommodation and travel on the very first trip to the Rhone.

Outside the Company, Alistair became very widely known as a gifted musician, a singer, organist and conductor. He encouraged and assisted the Company's choral ambitions. He co-founded the renowned label Signum Records for which he recorded the complete works of Thomas Tallis with the professional choir Chapelle du Roi, which itself he founded and conducted. He sang for many years as a Gentleman of Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal at St James Palace. More of Alistair’s many accomplishments in music can be seen on his tribute page https://alistairdixon.muchloved.com.

Some Members know first-hand the excellence of his hotel, The Bay Tree, and not least its cuisine which was Alistair's special interest and expertise as head chef. Alistair, and Robert, have been proud to have brought The Bay Tree to its present high standard. In addition, Alistair gave his time as chair of the Broadstairs Tourism and Leisure Association.
