Our Charitable Fund Giving

More about our Funding

Like all Livery Companies, our Charitable Fund is an independent body with its own trustees and governance. There is of course an overlap to ensure that the Fund's aims are consistent with those of the Livery Company; our Master and Wardens are ex-officio trustees.

Our Grant Making Policy:  Most grants are made to non-profit organisations in the UK, typically but not exclusively in Greater London and the South East, with a few made to UK-based organisations that operate internationally.

We have a strategic desire to support non-profit organisations that target their help at young people, specifically those “Transforming young Lives”.  Examples might include, but not be limited to:

  • Broadening educational opportunities by helping young people to study the arts or music for example.
  • Equipping young people, especially those from disadvantaged areas of London, for a world of rapid change and with skills to prosper in life. Out long term relationship with the Sea Cadets is an obvious example.
  • Developing employability skills by helping young people struggling with family issues, educational failure and unemployment, to gain, sustain and progress in employment.

Grants made from the Fund are normally directed at defined projects or initiatives, and not for general support of operations or facilities. Funding will be considered for initiatives which meet some or all of the following criteria:

  • Aims to build sustainable capacity in the organisation – which can deliver public benefit in the long term
  • Can demonstrate positive social impact as a result, or at least put in place metrics to demonstrate such impact
  • Where appropriate, draws upon ProBono Consultancy or Mentoring Support from WCoMC members to help deliver the change
  • Aims to develop the management consulting profession

We normally give grants for one year but are willing to consider longer term funding.  Scholarships and bursaries designed to further such initiatives may also be considered.
